In 2014, I walked out of a hospital in Minneapolis after hernia surgery — carrying a pile of duplicate bills I’d already paid. It wasn’t just frustrating. It felt wrong. The problem wasn’t medical. It was operational — the part patients and front-office teams live with every day. I took that stack of bills home and told my wife I wanted to try something different. We didn’t have a grand plan or a pile of money. We had a pain point and a promise: make healthcare feel human by making it work.
